As a kind of belated coda to my evil laptop repair saga, which ought to have ended nearly two months ago when Worst Buy at last replaced my old dead 'puter through their "no-lemon" policy, I am finally up to here with Windows Vista. What, precisely, is the point of buying a screamingly fast & powerful new machine only to load it down with an operating system that all by itself gulps up every bit of available CPUage it's got? My adorable little music notation software, NoteWorthy Composer (best $40 I ever spent, except maybe for that one dancer in Montréal... never mind) won't even play back properly even when it's the only application running: there's always fits and starts in the playback from all the OS processes going on in the background.
In short: FUCK VISTA. I've just ordered a copy of Windows XP Pro, Full Version, online from mysoftwareconnection.com. I don't even care about all the reinstalling I'mon hafta do. It will be worth it to have a functional home computer again.
