faeshale just left my place, where we had spent a pleasant evening eating dinner and watching
Alien (1979, dir. Ridley Scott), largely because Nick is looking at 1970s and '80s sci-fi from a feminist and/or cyborg perspective. As Nick discussed the progression of Ripley's character throughout the tetralogy—from miscellaneous mining ship crew to ass-kicking hero to cyborg herself, all the while progressing as a mother figure—it occurred to me I hadn't seen any of the first three in ages and never ever saw the last one. And we were trying to remember the directors of the four movies, so after Nick departed I fired up imdb and looked around... Ah, David Fincher did the third one, not Bryan Singer... and it was 1992, not late '80s... and let me see how Signourney's looking these days... hmm, pretty good. How old is she anyway?
Turns out Sigourney Weaver turned 60 today.
Félicitations!
In other news, it's totally
Lucky Daniels's birthday.
