Ok, so for anybody who did not check out bistet's posting of "the Friday Five" today, here's a recap of my participation. Today's five questions were:

1.) What fandom do you center on most?
2.) Do you contribute to it much (write fanfiction, draw fanart, participate in online communities and discussions)?
3.) Do you think that such things are good or harmful to the fandom and why?
4.) Do you think its good or harmful for the original creator?
5.) Why do you like this fandom in particular?

Far be it from me to belittle others (SNERK! bwahahaha) but the entire, I dunno, cast... or tenor... of this quintet of questions is scary and sad. They are written without the slightest hint of irony from the point of view of someone who cannot imagine a creative or imaginative life that does not revolve around somebody else's fictions. Note how the first question assumes the reader/respondent actively participates in multiple "fandoms" (the very usage of which as a countable noun is new to me); and questions 2 through 4 imply a certain ethos or "good citizenship" in fandom communities. In other words, if you do not further the cause of your fandom by writing fiction, drawing pictures, or arguing orthodoxies with other fans, you're really not doing your part. Sorry, did I say scary & sad? I meant repulsive. How about asking whether constricting your creative efforts to making up Buffiverse heterodoxies is good or harmful to YOU?

So for next week, let's make the Friday Five:

1. Of all the myriad ways to cook tripe, which is your favorite?
2. When you serve tripe to guests from Wenachee, Washington, do you tell them it's tripe?

4. If tripe and Hillary Clinton were running opposite each other for President of the United States, whom would you vote for?
5. Have you ever seen such a load of tripe as last Friday's Friday Five?
