Whenever I read, as in the Washington Post Excress this morning, or hear people talking about Obama or Democrats in general as 'tax and spend liberals' or whining that Obama stands for 'bigger government' and John McStain for shrinking the government and getting it off the backs of the people, I really have to wonder: how, given that fiscal (and other) disasters of epic proportions keep happening on the watches of Republicans and directly pursuant to their radical deregulation of industry—e.g., the S&L bailout under Reagan/Bush, and now this, or rather these current bailouts, whose final tally of taxpayer monies squandered, by the time we're done, will probably exceed a trillion bucks—how can people still think of the Republican party as the safer bet in protecting their monetary interests?
Unfortunately, the only viable answer is: human beings are tremendously fucking stupid and must be destroyed. Klaatu barada kaboom already.
