it was a really nice weekend. my only personal regret is re how much i drank saturday night, which was a few beers more than a few too many beers. i was wobbly; and woke up much too late sunday afternoon feeling generally blech. as always a number of things i wanted to do food-wise fell by the wayside throughout the weekend. i have massive leftovers even of some of the stuff people liked :)
i thought the potato salad turned out really well considering i realize after the potatoes were cooked that i had no sesame oil in the pantry. (Annie's Natural Organic Sesame-Shiitake Dressing to the rescue!) i had a lot of fun doing spanikopita friday night; i was proud of pulling off (with
peregrin8's and others' assistance!) two varied meals 4.5 hours apart on saturday; and the from-scratch mac 'n' cheese last night was described as "the perfect end-of-thon comfort food."
the crowd was wonderful, the weather was wonderful, the movies were wonderful. folks were helpful in tidying up, washing dishes, etc.
so as it turns out, three out of the dozen organic, cage-free, grade A large eggs i had hard-cooked for deviled eggs had double yolks. the first one amazed me in itself... i hadn't seen a double yolk since i was a kid and assumed it was a very rare thing indeed.... then
rabidkitten said she had some undogly number of a dozen eggs turn out double-yolked... and i found two more in the batch i was shelling. what up with that? is this brand new? it can't be some newfangled fertility drugs, right? these are organic eggs! and i've been buying and using organic, cage-free hens' eggs for a few years now and hadn't run across this phenomenon (doo doo de doo doo) before.
i really like the idea of a marathon cookbook... and given the gorgeous home-made book
rozebud gave me for my birthday, i expect we ought to bind at least one copy once it's compiled... i guess i'll put out a general call for recipes on the groovython community...
