Dec. 22nd, 2009
Barack Hussein Obama ran on the most egregiously misleading platform in memory ('change'?!) and has done nothing since but make a couple pretty speeches and ordered 'Full speed ahead!' with the wholesaling of poor and middle-class Americans to very same multinational corporations and industries and lobbies from which he had vowed to deliver us. In so doing he has murdered the already ailing American left: smothered it in its sleep.
At least with President Bush, you knew whom he worked for. With Mr. Clinton, the disappointments and political losses of his first year appeared to be despite his best efforts, not directly resultant from his worst. This evil gaping asshole in the White House signals the descent into the last, least tenable stage of political empire: utter loss of faith in the 'by/of/for' rhetoric of Abraham Lincoln; complete corporate ownership of all branches of government; and a 'fuck the poor' attitude that no longer needs to disguise itself.
We cannot hope to recover.
Some readings from the past two days:
This President just doesn't have the stomach to make anyone do anything they don't want to do (except women to have unwanted babies because they can't afford an abortion or live in a red state and don't have an employer who offers insurance), and his advisors are enabling his most troubling character flaw, his conflict-avoidance.
Withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. Disavowal of torture. Open government. Limiting the influence of lobbyists and other special interests in the Executive Branch. Moving away from a national agenda set by the religious right. Ending corporate hand-outs. Meaningful health care and medical coverage for all Americans. Fierce advocacy of gay and lesbian rights, including the end of Don't Ask/Don't Tell and the "Defense" of Marriage Act.
These are all "products" announced by Candidate Obama, products that allowed the Democratic Party to corner the market in national politics. But the release date for these products has consistently been set back, features have been eliminated and the primary user base -- we, the American people -- are ignored by a marketing department that insists on tailoring the products to maximize revenue rather than provide a quality item.
How is this not vaporware?
(The "deal" [in Copenhagen] that was ultimately rammed through was nothing more than a grubby pact between the world's biggest emitters: I'll pretend that you are doing something about climate change if you pretend that I am too. Deal? Deal.)
Top 10 Reasons to Kill Senate Health Care Bill: 1. Forces you to pay up to 8% of your income to private insurance corporations — whether you want to or not....
