Giddy thanks to
bxiieq for the first-person narrative that inspired this week's sonnet, and apologies for necessary inaccuracies and curtailment of details.
The rescue team assembled as was planned
To learn and practice taking cars apart.
Some extrication tool guys lent a hand.
Bill Fanning brought a car on which to start
The lesson, hither hauled straight from a crash
And dead as cars get. So we spend a while
Removing windows, doors, roof, hood, and dash
While trainers rate our tool technique and style.
We do our second carruns good! this one
Left in the yard by Earl Motts' boysas though
On scene. Within ten minutes we're all done:
Imaginary victims saved! And so
We're puzzled when old Earl 's repair guys call:
"Sorry, can't spare this junker after all."
